We're Number ... Umm - Nowhere Close to 1

Promoters of the doctrine of American exceptionalism suffered a sharp blow to the head yesterday. An international test of 15-year-olds from 65 countries revealed that Americans are solidly in the middle of the pack in science, reading and mathematical achievement. Canadians can take heart, as their students placed in the top 10 in all 3 categories.

Given the amount of time and energy Americans waste arguing over teaching evolution, revisionist history and other similar nonsense in our public schools, I suppose one could find it heartening that our youth still managed to claw their way to the middle. Perhaps it's time to stop squandering our money on foreign military adventures and start investing it in our human capital.
