Dave, Hypatia and I are on vacation near Annapolis, Maryland. We arrived here yesterday, after spending some time with Joshua and the Crossmen on Friday evening and Saturday. Hypatia had a great time with the Crossmen, as a good number of the corps members ate their meals with her. The cook, who was missing his Corgi, spent a good bit of time playing with Hypatia and sharing puppy training tips with me. Needless to say, Joshua was also tickled pink at meeting our new family member. He's wanted a dog, particularly a Beagle, for a long time. Now he's got his wish. He'll also get some of the chores that come with the granted wish!
Yesterday was a bit stressful for Hypatia, as she had to spend a fair bit of time in her crate while we traveled, bought groceries, checked into the campground, etc. Today was a much more relaxing day for all of us. These are some photos I took earlier today.
My guess is there will be more to come.

Gal Pals
Hypatia's first day at home was a busy one. In addition to getting accustomed to our house, Hypatia entertained some guests in the evening: Ally, Jonathan and Maggie. Ally and Hypatia took a few minutes to warm up to each other, but bonded quickly once the pizza and chicken wings (boneless) arrived. Hypatia had one small piece of chicken mixed in with her kibble and ate her entire meal without any difficulty. I'm pretty sure she'll be a lifetime member of the clean plate club.
The canine dining experience was cute. The two dogs began by eating and drinking from their respective bowls. By the end of the meal, they were eating and drinking from each other's bowls. Being refueled and energized, the dogs played together enthusiastically for much of the evening. The photo below shows them when their energy was starting to flag. By this time, they had happily shared toys as well as food. Notice that Hypatia is lying contentedly by the remains of a stuff toy that Ally broke in earlier in the evening.
A little while later, after the dogs had fallen asleep in their respective positions, Hypatia crawled over closer to her 2.5 year old niece and resumed her nap.
By the end of the evening, the gals had shared a meal, some toys, a nap, a couple of potty breaks and potty reward treats - and forged what promises to be a lifelong doggie friendship.

Hypatia's Homecoming
If you've read Dave's facebook page or blog, you'll know that we welcomed a beautiful Beagle puppy into our home today. Hypatia is 7 weeks old, adorable, feisty and sweet.
On the ride home, she wasn't at all happy with her crate. So, we decided I should put her on my lap. After a few minutes of anxiety and clinginess, she settled down and enjoyed the ride home.
When she got home, she didn't waste any time getting to know the place and making herself comfortable.
As I write, she and Dave are enjoying some quiet time together.
If you want to know how we selected her name, check out Dave's post.
