WOW - We've been married for 28 years!

Yesterday was Dave's and my 28th anniversary. It's hard to believe we've been together that long. It's hard to believe we're that old! As Dave shared in his blog post yesterday, our lives together have had some ups and downs. Fortunately, we've had many more ups than downs and look forward to being together for many more years.

So - how did we spend this romantic day? We began by hauling our RV to the service station for its annual inspection. Then we lazed around in the afternoon. It was hot but cloudy outside, so we didn't go swimming. In the evening we went out for an early dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Da Domenico. Since it was our anniversary, the waiter put the finishing touch on our meal with a complementary slice of cheese cake topped with a candle.

After dinner we went to Joshua's school for the annual band banquet. We arrived at about 7:00 PM, just as the pot luck dinner was concluding and the program was beginning. Great timing on our part! Yes, even though Joshua is 1,372 miles away, his parents attended the banquet on his behalf and picked up his four awards. These were:

a. academic achievement - having a GPA of 3.5 or higher
b. district band certificate
c. band letter
d. band pin

The last two items are awarded for meeting certain criteria re: attendance, community service, etc. I think the letter is retroactive - he should have gotten it last year, but there were some misunderstandings about the criteria. I think they straightened all that stuff out this year. Anyway, he got both his first year letter and his second year pin last night.

At the end of the banquet, Joshua called us on Dave's cell phone. We talked to him a bit, then passed the phone to some of his friends. Judging from the length of their conversations, it's clear that they don't pay their own phone bills! They obviously were glad to talk with him - after all he left town just over a week ago, he's been gone forever! We were glad to give them the opportunity to connect for a few moments. He tried to chat with the band director, but the connection kept fading and the room was fairly noisy at that point. Their conversation, if there was any, was brief. We finally got home from the banquet, which is always of marathon proportions, around 10:00 PM.

And that is how we spent our 28th anniversary.

Congratulations, Evie and Dave, with this new milestone and many years to come together! I appreciate the open way you tell about these events in your blog, so that we readers can also share the enjoyment, I also went to Da Domenico virtually. Also congratulations with Joshua, you must be very proud of him and also grateful. I'm sure you had a good time in California, thanks for your holiday cards on Aminus3, you can see that I also passed the 100 with my pictures that are sometimes so different from yours, but that's the charm of such a photoblogsite. The 27th June we will celebrate our 11th marriage anniversary.

sounds like a real romantic day! LOL! ...but you spent it doing things you love, and that's what matters.
